Using shinobi's method right now and its still not budging. About to use a come-along on it. This is pissing off. Could it be cause its like 30 (or less) degrees out?

There are 4, not 3 Perhaps that is the problem

A slide hammer should work, but I have always just hooked up a rotor backwards, threaded on some lug nuts a few turns, and used that as a slide hammer.

Since you pulled the shafts on the 35 before, Id have to assume you did remove the retainer plate nuts, so I guess try torching it for a minute or so, then use a dead blow hammer to hit the axle tube at the axle bearing area circumferentially, then go to town with the slide hammer.....

if it doesnt come out then I'd say keep it open and sell the aussie for a profit .

Good luck, report back.

David.

So, after my bucket of fail I ended up pulling the axle without a problem. I finished up and cleaned up shop around 12:45am. It's been pretty productive I think.

Starting off. The 44a has been pulled...again. At least it ain't in a parking lot.

My work area.

Time for the fun stuff. Once I had the axle pulled, I figured I would takle the Aussie and install it. I found THIS site for Broncos to be really helpful. I didn't have the instructions, so it worked out great. A tip for anyone putting in the Aussie, use a 7MM 6-point to remove the reverse torx bolt that holds in the cross pin.

No spiders.

I followed the websites instructions and the install was a breeze. It took me like 30 minutes to install. All my tolerances were to spec and I was done!

I'll be back tomorrow with truss install pictures and the first test run results.

Great write-up! I've seen your WJ on campus (I work there - IT staff) and never suspected the amount of work you've put into it. Nicely done.

If you ever see a grey haired guy driving a lightly modded green XJ with a Jeep Jamboree USA sticker in the left side rear window, that'd be me.

Thanks! I actually have seen yours driving around campus as well. Its the Jeep Jamboree sticker that makes me remember it. I think I've seen you a couple times coming down Stadium going towards Russell when I was walking out of Cary to go to class. Could be wrong though.

On a side note, just got back from my buddies place and the truss is all welded up. It's major BEEF! Pictures to come...

As I said earlier, I got the truss installed. It looks real good I think and should perform great.

Here's my buddy welding it up.

Shot of the final welds. If these thing break loose, I might as well do another axle swap. He ran two beads on each side.

Here are some shots of it unpainted.

Hit it with the flat black.

Axle goes back in tomorrow. Can't wait to drive this thing!
