I'll gladly take a hitch. My ZJ didn't come with one.

The 10 year limit does not apply. Maybe you should do more research before providing people with misinformation and stating something factually false:

I was hoping for a gas skid so I wouldn't have to install it myself

Though, we could get screwed and Chrysler might make some cheapo "extra bumper" that takes the place of the hitch but doesn't have a reciever. I've also read they will add a skid plate and junk to the filler line.

doubt they would do that unless it was to make us buy a higher end hitch from the factory... either way i had to replace my mounting bolts and it looks like they will be doing that for me too

Just spoke with a service rep at the local dealership, they said letters will be sent out in the coming weeks to let everyone know of the recall and that when I get that letter, just bring my jeep in and theyll fix it fo free.

Does this only apply to original owners or current owners based on your states title records?

He said everyone in the line of ownership will get a letter, but only the current owners (obviously) will be able to get the fix.

Nice, glad I waited to get that hitch even though I've already got a skid plate

I doubt Chrysler will design new bumpers or whatever to appease the recall, not when they've likely got thousands+ of trailer hitches already lying around that already do the job. Cheaper to use the stuff they got already than to spend extra money on r&d and production for a roughly 17 year old vehicle.

Wait for the letter to arrive, go in for inspection with the letter, schedule a day to have it installed and then go in for that day. I wish I could have them install my tire carrier at the same time cos I'll have to pull it off and then reinstall.

they better have more than a few thousand hitches laying around...they recalled 1.2 million vehicles
