So I'm really contemplating ditching my plate rear bumper for a tube bumper when I build my cage and tire carrier. What I have in mind is going to be the sweetest internal/exocage ever (If I can pull it off haha)

do it! But, isnt it too late for an Exo? You have to admit that thing is looking less like a WJ every day.

lol . The only main parts I'm protecting with the exo are the roof and A pillars, which are actually still pretty straight lol. I'm going to have an external A pillar come out of the fender, run up to the roof which is going to have a bar dang near flush on top of it running completely front to back like factory roof rails. I'm just trying to keep the cab from collapsing at all in a roll. Things should be locked in pretty well. The rest of the cage like the pillars will punch down through the roof like normal

It's a Jeep, it's not supposed to work right all the time.

I want to do something similar but my a pillar tube will have to run inside because of my snorkel. Then I'll have come out through the roof at a curved angle to make a nice transition.

putting the A pillar inside is a pain in the *** to keep anything close to the body because of that hefty dash we have. The way I'm expecting mine to come out should be within 1" of the body for the entire length of the external bars. Should be pretty slick

So speaking of all that cage work, it's well underway

I finished off the first b pillar and made the duplicate for the other side (but not ready to install it yet), and started working on the C pillar in a similar fashion.

Here's the B pillar bar mocked into final position

I bent the top back outwards to contact the roof bar nicely

Here's the sweet part, after cutting some sheetmetal away I have a direct shot to my 2" .250 main slider bar

So far my drivers side B pillar and C pillar have stress cracks, the body was not in good shape lol

What's the plan for the stress cracks? Plate over the area?

Murda I can't wait either, I don't have all of it envisioned and I'm makin decisions as I go!

As for the stress cracks, I can pretty much ignore them. I'll buzz them in with the welder, but with the cage B and C pillars being sunk into the sheetmetal and welded to the body all along the length, the factory sheetmetal is no longer going to be supporting any load.

More! I bent the C pillars up to what I mocked up, very happy with them.

Then while I was looking at my D pillars and cutting a hole in my roof I looked at my B pillars, and found out they already have the perfect bends I need for the D pillars. I just need to copy those bends one more time with a little more tubing on the short side and I'll have perfect D pillars. The silver bullets are crumple zones :flipoff2:

Then I decided something crazy out of nowhere...

Yeahhhhhhh!
