Just have to get the right transmission, right computer, tear apart my current wiring harness, cut a hole for the shifter, rebuild crossmember, fab the pedal setup, and get driveshafts that will fit

Right so even though I'm sick I was tired of being lazy with the nice weather we've had and got some work done today. I cut out the old lower rad support, and decided some frame plating was in order to keep this thing alive for a long time. I have some wicked ideas stirring for the front end. Here are my pics so far.

Pass frame rail plated with 1/8", goes back near the motor mount. Hand bent it to conform to the rails curves.

Drivers side to be plated

Box out, this plate will give some killer support to the box, and the box already rests on little standoffs which look to be damn near 1/8" tall. Perfect. I have the plate bent just not welded up yet.

Workin room (that red bucket is the remnants of my coolant, ATF much?

So once all this plating (which will include the bottom of the frame rails) is done I will be welding in the new lower radiator support. Once that is done I will get to start removing most (if not all) of the front "bumper" sheetmetal for clearance and style points, but that's the only thing holding the rails together right now so it's under some tension.

So today I did the drivers side frame plate, I don't think I'll ever have to worry about the steering box.

Welded in the beginning of a new radiator support and started cutting out the front. No that bar is not going to be the only support, don't worry.

Gotta love the extra clearance, seriously.

To get an idea of it with the grill on. I'm going to be cutting the end of the framerails back and capping them. And I still ahve tube bumper ideas in mind. Simplistic, but clean looking hopefully.

Thanks man. That combined with the 4 bolt box, I think I will be good for the life of the jeep. I'm sitting in a 3 hour long class right now bored out of my mind, here is the basic bumper design I've been thinking of as of now.

yeah its loads of fun lol. I did a lot of thinking and mental designing last night, I think I came up for the final solution for the actual lower radiator mount. That rusty bar isn't fully welded in, and its only 1x1x.120 so it's not strong enough to trust. Today's work should look pretty slick.

hmm I haven't updated this thread in a while but I've been workin away. Lets see...

Got rid of the center sheetmetal, and replaced that little crossmember I put in:

Taurus fan

Building the upper radiator support:

Then I had the idea to do this:

So I did it:

And I plated the tops of the frame rails also so it now had something stronger to land on:

Both sides done:

Fast forward to yesterday, more work on the removeable upper radiator support
Side attatchment points built, and land on 1/8" plates on the core support:

And showing how everything is bolt in, here is the removal...Bar removed:

Radiator removed (I can still work on the engine, pull the engine, anything I want)

And here's the extra support I'm still looking at doing. The red bars will be permenant, welded in solid to vertically support the joint. The green tubing will be welded to the cross tube but bolted to the frame rails so it can remove as one peice with the center. That should give it all the support it needs to be rigid.

Well I got some work today, but spent a decent amount of time on the hood latch system so I didn't get around to the red braces. Latch mount should be plenty strong though!

And obviously any open tube endings will be capped

Bottom side of the latch. its a peice of 1x2" i notched to fit on the diagonal braces, welded all the way around. The braces were placed in front of the main cross bar (as opposed to into the bottom) so I could fit my PS and tranny coolers behind them.

Gettin there...

Looking good man. Nothing quite like building it the way it should have been from the get go. Its certainly fun that way.

Haha yeah man it's a blast, I can't get enough designing and fabricating

Got the assembly done today! Uprights are done, I capped all the open tubes and I built the feet for the lower bolts to go through into the frame rails, here's the finished product! (besides some paint hehe)

And heres a "foot". Even before I drilled for this \/, with the other two bolts per side tightish I couldn't move the brace at all. Awesome.

There's definately more work hah! Thanks for the compliment. I took a break over the weekend to go snowboarding at Northstar @ Tahoe on saturday, and Sierra sunday. Yesterday I got my new (used) power steering box and the lines I need to eliminate the fan.

The new (used) 03-04 V8 WJ box, supposed to be a little lighter steering with it as a bonus...we'll see!

Gotta love $1 black paint

Radiator, taurus fan, new box, clean power steering pump and res

Latch in place:

Power steering and trans coolers in place behind the front bars, nice tight fit.

I haven't seen it with a face for too long so I mocked it all up. I'm getting close to startin her soon!

MMmmm new clearance and general shape:

Nice job, looks awesome.

Maybe one day I will do that to mine but I don't think I have the skills yet.
