Gear pattern looks nice . Just curious, why not 4.88s or 5.13s, I mean, you'll be good for 37s soon anyways....

I wasn't in the mood for having to mess with regearing the D44 again, its a PITA in comparison to the 9". Besides, I now have a used 5.43 gearset waiting for the 9" for whenever I do go up in tire size

Oh and something badass, the new 4.56's used the same pinion shim stack that the 5.43's did, how nice is that.

Everyone said you don't need a case spreader, you can pull the carrier with prybars and get the job done. I personally built a case spreader out of an old craftsman jack haha.

Don't tempt me
I have always heard doing it with prybars is a bad idea. This is why I haven't installed my ARB yes in the 30. I guess if you are careful.

And you know you want to.

Is thing going to make it to GSW this year?

^^^ I'm thinking some angle iron and all-thread ought to do it, I hope. Tried to pull the carrier out of the 44a the other day, and even with my super-duper-strenght and prybars, it wouldn't budge.....guess it's wedged in there pretty good after my carnage .

cool beans. yes, you are correct in assuming why i'm having a shop set the gears and not me. i will be reading up. thanks for the initial help though.

I took my 30 apart without a case spreader and it was a huge PITA. Getting the carrier out wasn't so bad, but you basically had to be the hulk to put that carrier back in there.

Yeah the case spreader made doing everything bearable, but MAN it was under some serious load heh. Kinda scared it would spring out.

I don't know if I'm gettin out to GSW or not yet, I'd love to though!

Tomorrow I'm planning on doing some housing work, adjusting the shock mounts to work for me and do the mounts for the chain limit straps

Doin some more work! And chose a color combo for the axle, should be good.

Started by tearing apart the 44a, she served me well.

Something looks wierd...

Ouch. This puts all potential sales on hold until I can verify the carrier is still good to go.

Banged up, shim still in place

Shim off

Now kids, let this be a lesson not to drive 5 miles on a broken axleshaft, unless you WANT it to make you upgrade

And here are the axle colors together; flat black and a hammered bronzy coppery color. I like it. The centersection, brake brackets and claytons links are going to be that color and the rest will be black.

Parts yum. You can see the colors better here

Had to chop off part of the old shock mounts to orient them differently, how convenient. I found a place to use the part I cut off, as new limiting strap mounts!

Aaand link color vs jeep...not too bad but I don't expect the jeep to stay this color for too much longer.
