Haha it's the same here. I wheel with my windows down and by the end of the day the inside of my jeep and I are covered in dust.

Nice find on that 9".

Disassembled the axle today and cleaned it up a little. DAMN these axles are huge. They've got almost a 1/4" (from whatever factory is, around 1.3 I think, to a 1.5" shaft with no neckdowns) on my old shafts, not to mention the chromolly factor. I think this axle will last me a while. Gunna have to go gear shopping tomorrow, but all of the bearings and races look mint, the old owner said everything had about 15k on it - perfect. The gear swap should go FAST compared to my front 44. Having a removeable 3rd might be my favorite thing EVER.

Haha you still haven't washed your Jeep yet? I kept the Moab dust for a few weeks then got sick of it. Probably wasn't a good idea though cause Moab might be closing now.

Ahhh the greenies kill me .

I hardly EVER wash the inside of the jeep, that dust buildup is from 6 wheelin camping trips this summer. BOOYAH.

Alright did some work yesterday, tore apart the 44a and its probably coming out today. I'm looking into the idea of using the factory WJ brakes on the 9", might take some work though.

Driving 5 miles on a broken shaft...

I counted 48 teeth on one of the rear shafts ABS tone rings. Thats damn nice because I'm going to be getting a tone ring machined to be pressed onto the yoke to read speed. To read the same speed as right now it has to have 4.56 times less teeth than I do currently because of the gear reduction. I can round to 10 teeth (similar to 4.80 gears), so my speedo should actually be closer than it is right now. The teeth themselves are about 1/16", the gap seems to be 1/8, so when I get the yoke tone ring made I will try to make sure the gaps are 2x the size of the teeth.

Makin a mess...

Can anyone tell which are which? Lol

This is the shaft I put in to replace the one that broke, I don't know if I didn't notice before of if it happened on this trip, but the splines seem SLIGHTLY twisted

Hmm haha. the old 44a shafts have a neckdown about 3" before the splines that necks down to less than 1.25", 9" ones are 1.5" with zero neckdowns. I pulled some torque ratings off the internet, it stated that a 1.25" 1040 carbon steel axleshaft can handle 5,100lbs-ft of torque. That website says a 1.5" 4340 chromoly shaft can handle 14,700. I don't think I'll be breaking em haha!

And this is the 9" retainer laid over the WJ brake backing plate to show what I'm workin with for brakes

I had it reamed, I think it was like $20 or something once I found the right person. Everyone else was charging like $40 or something

I wouldn't if you have to drive the jeep to school.
