Oh for sure man! We gatta get Grand Slam Rubicon together forealz this year too!

I threw on the Dakota manifold and dropped the engine in place just to see how bad it would be if I went that route...yeah no thanks lol.

How the engine has been sitting for the exhaust work:

This is sweet. I was able to use all the factory tubing to make the new exhaust around the starter

I also pulled out the plasma and started cutting the framerail as necessary hehehe

Well, had to take a step backwards yesterday. I noticed the DS wasn't going to clear the new exhaust, so I had to cut the exhaust again and reshape part of it. I got it finished, now it clears the driveshaft at full bump also. the Y-pipe is finally 1 peice again, and I welded it up with the engine in the truck, to make sure I could pull it out as one peice. It's a tight fit, but I was able to even with the front axle at full bump! Then I finish welded it and called it a day. So, here are some pics of whats up. First off, the exhaust vs driveshaft from the perspective of the tcase yoke:

Manifold, starter, and frame rail

Newest version of the exhaust:

Today I went back and plated the frame rail. It was divided into two peices with that horizontal line because there is another peice of the unibody running there. I was able to weld to it as well so all factory structure is connected. I'm not sure if I'm done with it yet, I might add a larger top plate to disperse the loads. And sorry for the ****ty looking welds lol, I suck at vertical and had to fill a few gaps.

That's what I didn't want to do with my frame for my exhaust. But I probably will to put the long tubes in with the 408.

Can't wait to see your reaction to banging gears in the dub. Its fun as all get out in the zj.

'97 zj 5.2, some stuff, some other suff, and some things that even work sometimes.

Haha yes, yes they do. It's pretty much the hardest obstacle I can think of around here.

CJ7guy, it's an NV3500 from a Dakota

Thanks Ghost

Rat, if I were to build custom headers (I've thought about it), I could get the exhaust to dump in front of the starter instead of next to it, then you could squeeze it between the stock frame rails. I'll make sure to get a video of my...reaction...to bangin through gears lol!

I've looked into the dual exhaust also...looks very possible because of how small the NV3500 is lol.

thats just a monkey bar now, you need at least another 6" (twss) to be a true ape hanger

I must say, the NV3500's shift location lends itself well to the WJ's dash. The factory shifter bracket is an issue (mine is removed), but look at where it comes out. 10 minutes with a dremel is all it took to get this far

Fully functioning:

And you guys wanna see long throw? Bahaha

Painted the valve covers, exhaust manifold, and Y-pipe with a high temp satin black paint, It should look pretty good in the engine bay

Oh snap I need to update this!

Engine in for *HOPEFULLY* the last time

Angle grinder with a cutoff wheel to the input shaft, I was spinning the output by hand as I went. Came out pretty well, wasn't sure exactly what to expect

Drivetrain clearance, notice I was able to flip Clayton's crossmember upside-down. I'm going to have KILLER underbody clearance with this new setup!

Mmmm lookin sweet

Here's what I had for the mount

I didn't have much height to work with for the bushing, so I lopped off part of the stock bushing (AKA Motor mount...same part). The idea came from Jeeptech over on MC

Then I built a little tray to extend off the front of the crossmember out of 1/4" plate

and voila! It looks like I'm going to have to protect those bolt heads...
