Another Jeep, another build thread - Purp Jeep

I figured I may as well do some sort of build thread.

Here is the obligatory bone stock picture. Only one I could find.

I traded my sister my very very nice 02 Yukon for her decent Grand. I am both a nice guy and have a bit of a thing for Jeeps. I've had an XJ and a ZJ, and I currently have a CJ7. So why not a WJ too?

Specs:
1999 Laredo
4.0 I6
Factory Tow Package, 3.73s
Leather
Purple (or maroon or whatever Chrysler called it)

I've done the usual things so far. New hatch shocks, spark plugs, and that sort of thing. Now for the fun.

I've already installed a Dana 44a with Vari-lok. Problem is that it apparently had a badly bent shaft. Bummer.

Here's the thread on that. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f310/...-deal-2335609/
Sad story, I know. So hopefully the new shaft will fix that action.

On the plus side, I went ahead and ordered the RC long arm kit.

And got it half installed...

Hopefully I'll get the rest done this week.

Still trying to decide what tire size to run. Jeep already has a bit of body damage, so definitely not afraid of cutting. Here's the link to my thread on that... http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f310/...stion-2348881/

And the lift is on! My eyeball alignment wasn't even too bad off. I'll take it in sometime this week for a good alignment.

Now to find tires...

So I still can not make my mind up between 265s and 285s... My sensible side says 265s, but then there's the go big or go home thought... And bigger is better...

I'd say 265s if you enjoy whatever gas mileage you have with the 6cyl, and 285s if you're feeling really patriotic, and want to show that Americans' go big, or go home.

Jeep: 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited Sport 4WD.
Engine: V8 4.7L
Condition: Excellent
Mods: none yet... Factory.

Good looking Jeep. But now where do you keep your spare tire?

It is currently laying behind the backseat. I have grand schemes of building a tire carrier rear bumper, but for now it'll be fine back there. It fits nicely next to my toolbox with plenty of room to spare. Back in my XJ days I threw my spare on the roof for a while, but I don't plan on doing that with this one.

Because my spare tire is taking all the space in my cargo area, there's no space for anything, and am not planning to put on my roof to avoid possible roll over due gravity when am off road, I've seen many rolled over due gravity and weight on the roof. And tire carrier looks a good solution but unfortunately not for me, as my car now is very attractive to police, almost every trip in my Jeep I get fined because of the lifted Jeep and big tires. So am puzzled :s

Well that is one good thing about Alabama is that they are not very strict on that sort of thing. Have you considered removing your rear seats? If you don't need them for people that is....

I sourced a junkyard front double cardan driveshaft a while back. Just got around to installing it the other day and realized that it was nearly 2 inches too short... Apparently they'd sent me one from a V8. Apparently junkyards are not very good at labeling driveshafts. Decided I was fed up and placed my order with Carolina Driveshaft this morning. Very fairly priced and easy to deal with so far. Ready to get this thing in the dirt already!
