needs more rod. Really.

1/2" plate to 1/2" plate is 3 pass minimum. Unless you're using 5/16" rod.

Ehhh I don't think you can accurately judge that from the pics I put up! I had my welder's wire speed maxed out (and adjusted voltage to match the flow) and some nice slow HOT passes. The welds aren't really concave or convex, and the cast isn't 1/2" thick for much of this welding! I guess we'll know fur sure once I start grinding away the plate, see if I put down enough material

Well Rat, kiss my a$$ .

I was hoping to get a perfectly smooth transition, but I just didnt put enough weld down near the cast for that to work 100%, so it looks kinda bleh to me. It's definately 100% solid, just has that little notch. I don't think I'm going to reweld that little gap just for looks though, going through the whole heating and cooling process. What do you guys think?

So after that grinding I was still feeling productive. I decided to pull the rear axle, in the absolute laziest cleanest way possible. SUCCESS!

I found out that if you really want to, you can pull the calipers off the brakes of the 44a with these wheels without pulling them off lmao! It made it so I didn't have to disconnect the brake lines for the axle removal...and I still had the wheels on for rolling. So happy about that

Then it's just yank the vent tube, disconnect the ebrake and unbolt the sucka!..............How bout a little stretch Andy? Hahaha juuuuust kidding.

But I mean this doesn't look all that bad...hehe

I'd say finish it out and fill in that notch. With that thin spot at the edge of the gap, I would think you'd run the risk of catching a rock just right and putting a decent dent in the 1/2".

Thanks!

Mmmmmm The grinding disc I was using was shot so I couldn't get into the corners, just a little more flap discing and I'm done.
