drove the jeep last night, and am thinking of a drive today, its a 1.5 hour dive, all highway.... not sure if i want to do it, as at 70mph, the jeep vibrates, not shake, just vibrates, im prety sure its the tires.

im also going to try and get an alignmrnt soon, im sure that will help.

also, the shocks we have just dont cut it, the tires and axles i have are just too big and heavy for the shocks that i have.

what kind of shocks are you gunna get?

how was the drive?

99 WJ hp44, 3 link, Eaton e locker, 14" foa coilovers in the front. 14 bolt, 4 link, grizzly locker, 12" foa coilovers in the rear. 5.38s and 37s

FOA, 2.5" smooth body remote resivores.

drove the jeep up to chico and back.

the good parts.... the jeep made it, there and back, and i didnt die.... so that was good... the brakes are much better, and i love the adjustability of the proportioning valve.
and on the few hills from here to there i realy pushed her, and she pulls up hills like a beast.

as for the bad, everything else.... i am prety sure i need to ballence the wheels/tires, the beads i put in there arnt enough.

the driver side coil spring rubs and clanks on the axle side track bar bracket.

the exhaust needs another hanger near the back, as right now it rests on the rear crossmember, and rattles.

its good some good bump steer, so i either need to get off my *** and install the hydro assist, or throw on a steering stabilizer, there is allot of feed back through the wheel.... but, no death wobble, so that is good.

also, last but not least, gas millage.... TERRIBLE!
some some quick math, it came out to 8.5mpg... that being said, most of the drive was at 2000rpms, or mabe a tad less, my average speed was about 55mph on the freeway.

Glad to hear it made it man! We can try rotating the coil, the pigtail might be bending the coil inward (like is actually currently happening on my WJ, frustraing noise.) We can definately add an exhaust hangar, I didn't have one of the steel rods to do it like OEM, but we can do it with a little set of tabs and a rubber isolator.

How much longer are ya in town for?

greg, i dont see it being to difficult to bent a rod to work for us...and i was looking at the tranny mount that we have, there is one of the bushings there that we can use, just cut it off and weld it another place.

the spanner I made on the torchmate for a 1/2" ratchet


And the moneyshot. Before Andy picked the jeep up I flexed out the rear for the first time (front sway bar still connected)
Unseated this coil by like 3" and had more room to go...oops lol


and STUFFED. Gotta trim the fenders a bit, and this is with shocks that only allow 3" of uptravel so once we get the new ones in there it'll stuff even harder until we bump stop it. Notice the basically complete lack of flex steer out of the rear axle because of the double triangulated...so nice.

greg, i have seen coil springs that are progressive, that are wound tighter up at the top, to decrease ride height, but when unloaded, they droop farther than a coil of similar length, we may have to look into those to maximise the potential of the long arms.

Andy we'll have to check out the coils! Do you want me to cut the rear fenders the ~1" we can up to the door, and follow that line around the top?

And thanks Flesh . Andy still has the dream to put it in the 2013 KOH stock class, so this beast may have it's day in racing history hehe.

So the Chico trip spurred some going through, and doing things to make it droive better. First, the slop we had in one of the rear UCA's was completely my fault. At first we had a short exhaust that was pretty close to the control arm mount, the jeep probably got 30 miles in that time period so I didn't think it was much of an issue. Well the summit machine joints on TnT's arms use what looks like regular plastic bushing halves instead of any of the fancier materials used in Johnny Joints and similar. The heat was apparently enough to soften the plastic, so under suspension load the outer diameter of the bushing got compressed allowing slop between the plastic and the housing, even though the spherical ball still felt nice and tight. I extended the exhaust before the Chico trip, but it was already too late and it was causing slop in the rear suspension which is one reason Andy's drive wasn't as comfortable as he expected.

The other thing, I never measured toe after building the steering and setting her on her wheels...yeah we were looking at over an inch of toe in! I just brought it back out to somewhere between 1/4" and 3/8" toe in, rotated the drivers side coil not to clang on the track bar bracket and took her for a drive. 110% better than it was previously, and it wasn't terrible before. Fully comfortably driveable around town now, and I plan on doing some freeway testing in the upcoming days. I'm still going to add a steering stabilizer to make it even more comfortable on the streets, but I'm not kidding, she's starting to drive pretty nice.
