my brakes were completely shot, couldn't drive the Jeep anywhere, i did contact Kolak to see his prices, but they were more than i wanted to spend at the moment, so i went to rockauto.com and picked up Wagner Thermo pads (f/r), front Centric rotors and a new radiator cap for $173 shipped.

this was my first time doing pads and rotors. i followed a write-up on here which helped a lot. once i did one side, the other was a lot easier.

old rotor and pads

the rotor was really stuck even after beating on it with a mini sledge, so i came on JF to see if anyone else had that problem, and it seems pretty common. i read to just keep on beating on it and it WILL come loose. that's what motivated me and after of about 20 minutes more it finally came loose.

everything off

new rotor

pads

once i did the other side (passenger) i ran into a problem. one of the caliper bracket pins wouldn't come out. i tried lubing it up, i used pb blaster, i beat it with a sledge...never budged. i was limited on time, so i decided to buy a new bracket and sliding pins since they were cheap at autozone. they had the caliper bracket in stock but not the pins and rubber boots. i checked 2 more AZ's and 2 advance auto parts and no one had them. so i had to bolt everything back up and the jeep sat for about a week until my pins and rubber boots came in.

pic of the old bracket w/ stuck pin

reman. bracket from AZ

all ready for a test drive

i've read that people get squealing, smoke and smells during their break-in period, but all i had was a whining noise the first 10 miles. drove it to work today for the first time with the brakes and they seem fine. and i'm happy i driving it a lot.

next thing i will be doing is get my overheating problem fixed. i'm going to be taking it to a radiator shop that uses some chemical they dip the radiator in to really clean it. friend recommended it. if that doesn't work i'll have to get a new or used radiator. also had a slow tire leak when the wj was sitting, right now the tire is at discount tire, and i have a 245/70 spare i picked up, on it now.

Looks good, I'm on tranny #2 after loosing my reverse, need to replace my transmission pan gasket, was slipping so i checked my fluid and the stick was completely dry

If your slide pins stick grab a pair of vice grips and just twist em till they come out then lube them up real nice, whenever I change my brakes I re-lube the slide pins because they stick so often.

Nice Jeep though looks good I have 3" IRO lift and 31" rugged trails I love it!

Which springs you talking about? My old ones? Better look at an IRO 3" kit mikey, he sold those a long time ago
