well i know i have been talking a lot of junk lately about going to full width axles and its finally happening. Im doing this transformation on a separate thread than my regular build just to make it easier and less cluttered.
So this is where im at right now...
got everything ripped out from under blue and sold. Both axles are gone as well as all of the suspension. I traded someone my 4.5 RE springs for some 7" claytons and im building my own long arms. They are going to be basically like claytons arms just home-made. well to make this less boring, here are some pics....
axles are a hp d44 front and full floating d60 rear. both have 3" OD tubes
sitting on it own weight! with the coils in and compressed, i gained 2 inches from where it sat on the jack stands. measured and im definitely going to need some new shocks. put the driveshaft up to check for length and clearance on the crossmember and im not even going to have to mess with it so thats good.
*IM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYONES PANTS THAT MAY NEED REPLACEMENT*:teehee:
I have been lurking around in the ZJ forum for a bit and must say... This is a bad a$$ build... As an XJ guy I can appreciate building a rig that is typically the underdog. Now get the rear done and go rep the "boneless" jeeps. Do us proud ! ! !
thanks for all the comments yall. i dont know what shocks to get. if i get 14" travel shocks then ill have only 3.3" of up travel and 11" down. but if i get the 12" ill have 6.14" of up and only 5.8" down. I definitely want more down than up but im not sure if 3.3" is enough up travel. what do yall think?
really? i was thinking that even driving down the road would bottom out the shock if you only had 3" of up travel... the springs are attached to the coil mounts at the axle. they arent going anywhere...
old shocks are for sale. pro comp MX6 for 4.5-6.5 lift!
Just went out and mesured and I have about 3.5" of uptravel up the bumpstop will catch it at 3" to 3.25" to keep the tire out of the fender. I don't bottom out while driving on the road, or at least I don't notice if I do. Here is what it looks like.
with a little over 3" of up travel, i dont think ill be into the fenders at all. I think this is going to be the route i go. maybe i wont have to trim so much.
ill be going UP to reno as soon as this mother is done. lol
found my shocks! going with 13" travel big black ****s (thats prob going to be sensored) haha these will give me 4.21" up and 8.79" down which is EXACTLY where i want to be. They also have a built in bumpstop which is just a plus. I wont know which shocks to get for the rear untill i get it under and sitting on its weight. I also have more control over where i want the shock tabs on the axle.... here is the link to the shocks.
yea it was definitely for both. haha. have this weekend off! hopefully ill get something done. have a lift to install on someones xj for some side money on sunday but the rest of the time will be on blue
