2016 Diesel Grand Cherokee - Are you serious?

The Diesel engined 2016 Grand Cherokee is being promoted, in the UK, as capable of providing 30 to 43 miles per Imperial gallon. The Which organisation, a very respected UK watchdog, recently announced their own test results.
Using the European Combined mpg rating, "Which" struggled to achieve 25 miles per Imperial gallon against Jeep UK's Euro Combined figure claim of 37.7 Imperial gallons per mile. Given the fact that our Brit Imperial gallon is 20% larger than a US gallon, that equates to 20 miles per US gallon!
The previous 3.0 V6 diesel (Mercedes sourced - Jeep Europe option) was a disappointment fuel mileage wise and it appears that this MultiJet (Italian sourced?) 3.0 V6 engine keeps the faith!
However, "Which" found that the worst offender was Mitsubishi with an unbelievably/unachievable fuel mileage claim for their Outlander PHEV hybrid "eco" vehicle.
The VW scandal has put a very dark cloud over all of the European Diesel engined car manufacturers. Considering the 2016 Diesel Grand Cherokee's real world fuel consumption figures, who would find this engine option an attractive proposition?

I have a 2014 3.0l eco diesel and get 20-23 reliably in the city and close to 30 on the freeway. However ..... we are currently working on a buy back of the vehicle for a new gas version because of 16 trips to the dealer for P20EE codes, 5 catalytic converters and countless reprograming.

The engine is great and drives very well, I dont think they got the bugs out of the DEF injection system or catalyst for the US emission standards. They may have on the 15 / 16 but we are done ....

I don't follow 'Which', but actual figures for my 2014 CC EcoDiesel are 23.4 mpg (US) around-town driving in a high altitude mountain environment (Colorado). 30.5 mpg for highway driving. This vehicle tows our 5600 lb Airstream Travel Trailer beautifully at 17 mpg cross country. 33,000 miles without engine problems. Seriously!

Cheers,
JamuJoe
