You may need to hold off on drive shafts until the axles and tcase is in to measure everything.
Yep, I'll order those after its sitting at ride height with the tcase in.

As far as brakes I couldn't see doing this much work and not putting in all new brake components. Rockauto has decent prices, but still a kick in the junk.

We are stationed at Whiteman here in MO. Flying with the 303rd (reserve squadron) as part of the TFI deal.

Stay safe over there

My cousin lives over in Boonville - not too far from you! I'll have to go visit them so I can use that as an excuse to see this beast when it's finished up!

Yeah man, you're welcome down.

Took a break from axles as I wait for parts. Clayton stuff got delayed again, supposed to ship tomorrow. Hopefully. Same with the bumpers. Sounds like everyone is really backlogged. Glad I'm not in a huge hurry!

Cut and rolled the last fender I'd put off once my gears came in.

Sand/tape/paint after dinner.

So, for some reason I was scratching my head at my rear axle today. No particular reason. Then I looked over the stock axle shafts and discovered I really should have looked at this axle more closely when I picked it up instead of trusting the guy I bought it from. They aren't 30 spline like they should be on a 78. They are 16...didn't even look at them when I pulled them out.

Long story short its not from a 78 like the front is. I ran the BOM and its a 68 ford axle. Now I gotta get some chromo shafts to match my locker. Not to mention some spacers since its narrower than the 78 axle should be by 3". Can't believe I didn't notice this earlier. The wife wasn't amused I need $400 shafts too

Had I known this from the get go I'd be going with 35 spline shafts instead.. Oh well. Glad I noticed it now.

16 spline shafts. Wft.

Send your locker back and get 35 spline and bore out the spindles.

What did you use to roll the lip, hammer and dolly?

Sucks to hear about the axle. Why not find the correct year so your not running custom shafts? Too far into it already?

Pretty much. The 16 and 30 spline are the same diameter, the aftermarket has chromo versions readily available.

As far as rolling I cut a piece of steel and rigged up some billed pliers with my vise grips. Started the crease on the line I measured and marked with a sharpie. Then tapped them over with a hammer.

Still have to clean off the flaking paint around where its rolled and sand, which is why it looks a little wavy in the pic. You're seeing the places the paint has chipped off.

After sanding I tape up about an inch then prime/paint.

Haven't decided if I'm going to run fiberglass flares or not yet. Figured either way the paint will protect the metal around the cut and roll.

Pretty sure that's not an option as I've already got it in the axle.

Gonna run the chromo 30s and call it good. Doesn't require any extra mods since they are identical diameter to the 16s.

If I snap these then I'll consider boring and going to 35 spline chromos. The 30 spline chromo shafts are actually rated higher than stock 35 splines.

Oh yeah, forgot about that part. Hahah.

You could get 30 spline shafts stock if you can find shafts the correct length. Save some money and not get chromos.

Yeah, I thought about it but I think virtually all 30 spline shafts are about an inch and a quarter too long. I could cut them down and have the splines extended, but may be more work than its worth for stock shafts in the end.

Gonna search a little more but ultimately see myself just ordering some chromos.

Ended up ordering some Yukon shafts this evening. Should be squared away again.

Gotta love hiccups.

No work. Fishing this weekend so I took leave and headed to Kansas.

Did order my 231HD today and got tracking info for my bumpers.

Big delivery today.

My Clayton stuff (suspension/axle brackets), Yukon shafts, and all my brake components got in today.

Just getting it unboxed and organized. Then the rear end gets cleaned up, brackets put on, and slung under the Jeep.. Lots of work to do.
