Day 2- Ensured proper drying of the end caps and removed the tape. This completes the process for the end caps!! Woohoo! Now to continue with the rails…after allowing the Rust Reformer to dry overnight, I began day 2 by taping off the mounting plates that attach the rail to the frame. Again, this is optional, however I figured that since the mounting plates are already black and I didn’t want to **** up the new paint when re-installing them, it was better to just leave them be.

After taping, I sanded down the WHOLE rail (including the Rust Reformer) with 150-grit. Next, I degreased the WHOLE rail, making sure not to leave any fine dirt/sanding particles behind. As for any restoration, preparation is key so take your time!!! After all that, it was time for the bedliner. Again, I did 3 coats to ensure great protection as well as a nice texture. Waited about 15 minutes between coats. Lastly, I let them dry overnight before putting them back on the Jeep.

Day 3-Final touch-ups, reassembly, and reinstallation!! Look over your work to see if you missed any spots. Then, simply attach all the parts in reverse order, step back, and admire your work! But don’t get too excited until you put them back on the Jeep! Looks awesome IMO. I really enjoyed this project and the final result was amazing…the texture, the protection, the look, everything came out great!

If I missed anything or if you have any other questions, let me know! If you decide to take on this project, good luck and post your final results here!

Here are some before and after pics. It was a cloudy day when I put them back on, so they don't look that dark. I'll try to get some better pics when it's sunny again!

Wow, I really like the darker look. Great work on it, especially with the clean up, rust removal, that will save you in the long run! Better to catch it now.

The Rust Reformer is some pretty good stuff, then sealing it with bedliner should be good to go.

Scott the rails look AWESOME! That faded grey really gets old after a while. Also kudos on the awesome tutorial for those I'm sure many will appreciate it. I'm going to picture spam for anybody who would like another pic of how the bed liner works out... I like it better on your jeep the deep colors match, not like having a white WJ helps hahaha. Did they ever make a white overland WJ? Never seen one before

Thanks man, i appreciate that! Hopefully some other people will even see my build thread haha but yes, i hope people can use this write-up as a guide. Overlands weren't offered in white, but i must say Limited's in white with the chrome wheels look pretty good.

They actually look pretty good and I'm not one for tinted lights. I LOVE the LED replacement lights that are going around (not the ricey altezzas obviously) you need a set!!!

Agreed, i like the look but i'm thinking they're a bit too dark and that becomes a safety hazzard. But what are these LED tails you speak of? Post a link!
