Got the D30 stripped of the old style calipers and brackets, and painted the axle red, as instructed by the WJ's owner, my wife!! I plan on using her Jeep's '04 calipers and brackets as the axle is from a '00. Everyone else in our Jeep club likes to paint axle and suspension parts, so, she wanted them painted red to match her Jeep. This will be installed next weekend when our Jeep club has a work weekend.
At installation time, I also plan on replacing the outer axleshaft u-joints, that'll be fun!!
Ok, got a front skid plate for $15 at the junkyard:
Here is the '00 D30 with Vari-Lok 3.73 gears installed:
Here's both together installed:
The D30 bolted right in, no mods. I swapped the '04 Akebono calipers, caliper brackets, rotors and the ABS sensors from the 2WD axle beam over to the D30, worked like a champ!! Now, have to figure out the drive shaft issues, and then on to the OD unit and 242 install.
Just found out from WJ Jeeps that my driver's side heated mirror has the Auto Dimming function! I have a driver's side heated mirror, memory module, all four inner door panels, and auto-dimming inside rear view mirror from a '00 WJ. Reading the Mirror section of WJ Jeeps lead me to discover that there was an option that, with the auto-dimming inside rear view mirror, you could get the driver's side outside mirror with the auto-dimming function. These auto-dimming driver's side mirrors have "GNTX" engraved on the bottom center of the mirror glass. Low and behold, that engraving was on my mirror! I just have to wire the driver's side mirror to the auto-dimming inside mirror, and it should work.
Another thing I found out is, with the memory module in '99-'02 WJ's, the memory mirror function controls both driver's side AND passenger side mirrors! For the memory module for '03-'04 WJ's, only the driver's side mirror is controlled. On mine, I only got the '00 driver's side mirror, and not the passenger side (the '00 passenger side mirror was damaged), so, I have still have the '04 passenger side mirror. The '00 memory module on mine does not control the '04 passenger side mirror. When I originally installed the memory module, the driver's side seat motors didn't work either. More research lead me to switching out the driver's side seat track for the '00 seat track. The reason for it is, the '04 Laredo seat track motors did not have position encoders, which is needed so the memory module knows the position of the seat motors. This might be the same issue with the passenger side mirror, the '04 mirror did not have position encoders for the memory module.
Got a '00 passenger side mirror, and now, it works with the memory and is heated!
From what I can see, I have the correct wires going into the driver's side door plug from the body side for the auto dimming feature. I had to wire in the door the two wires that go to the door panel for that option. I hope it works, won't know until tonight.
Test complete, auto dimming driver's side mirror works!! When I tested it, I used an LED flashlight. When I pointed it at the side mirror, it didn't dim. When I pointed it at the inside rear view mirror, the side mirror dimmed with the inside mirror.
Finally got my RB1 AL NAV disc in the mail. Found out that the DVD mech in the RB1 is just fine! I bought it off eBay for $150 shipped because the NAV disc would not read. Found out that it will give a read error at first, then I switched to radio and back to NAV, the screen goes blank, and then, the disc starts updating the firmware. I'm so glad!! Now, need to get a GPS antenna.
Well, good and bad news about the RB1. I got a burnt AL NAV disk from a guy on here. It looked like it was updating, it would finish, but, when you tried to use the NAV function, it would give a disk read error. Thinking it might be the unit, as the seller had the same issues, I checked with a radio guy in town. He thought the burnt disk was causing the problem, and I should try a Mopar disk. Well, went to Wallace Jeep in town, and they let me borrow a Mopar AC disk. It worked like a champ! I guess my radio is one of those that don't play well with burnt disks! Looks like I'm going to have to cough up $150 for the Mopar AL disk, OUCH! Anyone know where I can get a Mopar AL disk that is $100 or less? Thanks!
Well, had to get the Mopar AL disk from the stealership, and IT WORKS!
Thank God, or, I would have paid $150 for nothing! I think I still came out ahead, $175 shipped for the RB1 and $150 for the AL disk puts me at $325. The closest I could have come to on eBay was $367 for a used RB1, PLUS shipping and that did NOT include the nav disk!
So, one more added option: factory in dash NAV system! Now, just need to get the iPod integration kit and Sirius Sat kit.
