Wrangler Engine Swap

I am looking to swap the engine/tranny in my 90 Wrangler from the 4.2 Carb/auto to a 4.0/AOD combo. Does anyone know if this combo from a Grand Cherokee or any models other than a Wrangler will also fit without modification? In my search, I have found many of these engines and some trannys, but not always from Wranglers. In order to find a lower mileage engine, I have searched for 94 and newer versions.

The basic drivetrains from Wrangler/Cherokees are similar/exact between 4.0s but you will need some modification if swapping from a 4.2L.

You'll need the computer, electronics, etc, for the 4.0 and some more. Good swap, if you are willing to do it.

Maybe someone else can help you with the specifics? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Thanks for the info 4wheeler! I figured I would need the computer and anything else hanging off the engine. When you said I would need mods to swap from a 4.2, do you know if that would hold true if I am swapping the engine AND tranny? Would there be a mating problem with the Wrangler xfr case?
