Will you install gears/lockers/shafts yourself?

I am debating weather or not to tackle a super 35 kit myself. I really hate to give somebody all that money. Anyone out there a "medium" mechanic who has done them or has no doubt they will.
Are there any good write ups out there?
Is it really that hard.
Is it not a matter of following some directions and special tool or two?

There are a lot of threads here on DIY gears. Do a search or two. Short answer: Yes and no. Some people do it all the time with no problems (I do). Some people make disasters and have to buy new gears a week later and have someone else do it right. Some people have not done enough research on how to do it and can't even get through the project without a zillion surprises. Can you or can't you is way more dependent upon your personal abilities and approach your to projects than anyone providing information or encouragement here.

super 35 kit

The super 35 kit should be a pretty easy install. It only requires setting the backlash/carrier brg. preload, as you dont even need to remove the pinion unless you are changing the gears too. Just dont cut any corners, and if you are unsure of something find out BEFORE you run it. Most good vendors will provide technical assistance to their customers too.

Go for it, just take your time and do a quality job, it's not that hard.

Here you go...

This is probably one of the best writeups I have seen regarding gear setup. I hope it helps.

Most gear installs I do are on the average $300. Really not to much in my opinion. Normally, if your taking your time and doing a quality job you will about break even on time spent, some take more time than allocated. Differential tools are not cheep either.
