Whats up with my jeep???

i have a 94 xj and when i go from being stopped at a red light or stop sign i press the gas and the engine just revs up for about 3 second then kinda ...clicks... into gear it feels like and starts moving. Any suggestions or explanations?

Sounds like your transmission is slipping.

Check your transmission fluid level. Add fluid if needed or do a fluid change and see if that helps. If the fluid gets too low or worn out/burnt, the transmission will start to act up. Run it long enough with insufficient fluid and you will burn up an auto transmissions clutch bands. I had this happen recently to a Camry. Sudden fluid loss from bad gaskets toasted the clutch bands. Wasn't a cheap fix, unfortunately, but still cheaper than buying a new car.
