What would be cheaper or the better choice? Gears.

Planing on getting an 8.8 with 4.10's in it. Now as for the front, should I re-gear my dana 30 or should I find a 30 out of a 4 cylinder and swap that in for mine? What is the average price to get my front end re-geard? and how does that price compare to the price of a different 30 and the time/work myself to install it?

It really all depends on your location, parts availability at the JY, shop rates at local shops that KNOW what they are doing etc. With out living in your area and knowing those things no one can really give you a good answer.

I got the carrier with the R&P and the whole shabang out of my buddies 4cyl becaue he went to 4.88's and I just had to buy him a new carrier. They just dropped in and I got lucky with a perfect pattern the first time. I am still running his rear D35 (so now I have a spare when mine breaks) axle because he went to an 8.8 so I was in to it the cost of the new carrier + $50 and I did the swap my self.

I did an 4.10 gear change on a YJ front dana 30 by swapping the axle from a 4cyl YJ in my brothers Jeep. Total cost was $125. Cost to regear would be $600 or more. You can then also sell your old D30 to recoupe some costs or keep for spare parts.
