What trans

Hi all I have a 1990 keep xj 5 speed and the time has came to replace my clutch, only problem is I have found 2 different clutch kits for it. One for the AX5 trans and one for the AX15 trans. Could anyone tell me what transmission I have. The build date is 12/89 if that helps and it's a 4.0l

Thanks

Since you have the I6 you do not have the AX5, that was behind the 4cyl.
I use Luk 01901. Rock Auto has them for $143 ish +shipping.

Some of older pre 91 xj's & mj's may have the ax5 Peugeot. I've seen a couple of 4.0's with weak Tranny.
Google AX5 vs AX15. Gives you good pics so you'll know

The 6cylinders had the Pugot BA10-5 tranny and a/the giant turd. The AX is an Aisin (japaneese tranny not french) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._transmissions and while not a bad transmission not found behind the 4.0 I6. Automatics ran the AW4 for the most part with the different models shown below.

Automatic transmissions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Ch..._transmissions
1984–1986: Chrysler A904 3-speed automatic, used with 2.5 L I4 and 2.8 L V6.
1987–2001: Aisin-Warner AW-4 4-speed automatic, used with 4.0 L I6.
1994–2000: Chrysler 30RH 3-speed automatic, used with 2.5 L I4.
