This is on the passenger side front axle of a TJ Rubicon. The driver side does not have this piece. It seems to make a ungodly squealing sound.

It keeps garbage out of your axle tube. Not sure if that is factory or not. I haven't seen one like that. It won't hurt to run without it. You will get some trash in your tubes, but most axles don't have seals there anyway.

It looks like one of these.
Like Lou said just pull it out and go, or replace it. No harm either way.

Thanks! I pulled it out. The Jee still works but the noise persists.

How do the brakes look? I've had a dust shield that got bent and made an awful noise. I'd jack up the front end and rotate the wheels and see if anything is rubbing or if you can hear that noise.
