What Can I do for more POWER on my 4banger?

I'm wondering if any of you know of anything that I can do to get more power and torque out of my 4 banger? i.e. air filters, performance spark plugs, etc.

2.5 L 5 Speed

We'll start from the beginning and work our way back.

First, a ram air intake
2. 4.0 throttle body
3. Throttle body spacer
4. Computer chip
5. Exhaust header
6. hi-flow cat
7. Performance muffler and tailpipe (your choice really)

Thats probably the most you can do with a 2.5.

gearing! it will be the most bang for your buck. you can make that 4-banger feel pretty darn peppy with the right gearing. As Josh said, this won't actually change the torque at the flywheel... but it does increase torque at the wheels, were it counts!

Omar, I'm throwing 33s on this weekend with a 3" RC Lift. Going to see how it rides initially before I go to get it regeared. (Im thinking 4.88)
I have a 4.0L Throttle Body and a PowerAid Spacer w/ K&N High Flow Filter and Restrictors removed.
Needless to say I have alot of air being breathed in by the engine. This gives for a nice meaty lurch I was never able to gain in my 4banger before. Although I do believe the regear is the best thing for your vehicle, with engine performance upgrades your only making the engine work just as hard w/ a few reliefs. Regear is the Key.

Well, I suggest going with a 4.0L throttle body. Then go with a Poweraid Throttle body spacer. Everyone seems to like the 4.0L swap after I wrote about it for 4x4wire.com.

Gearing will give you the biggest improvement if you have large tires. But it's not cheap. You won't gain any power but it will bring the powerband back into check. The Mopar performance Handbook isn't that helpful. Most of the parts listed are for offroad use only so be aware of that. No one makes a computer chip for YJ 2.5L's. You might think about a 9lbs inertia ring to add the flywheel, too. Basically you want to touch on all aspects of the engine from intake to exhaust. I don't like Flowmater exhausts. You get a loud exhaust tone but that's about it. I found no performance gain.

Now my only dilema is choosing between 4:56 or 4:88 gear ratio. That's the only thing holding me back from buying them.

Python makes the Venom 400 makes one. It runs around $350. An ignition kit would help a bit too. With all I mentioned, you'll be the peppiest lil' 4 banger on the block!
