V8 Swap questions

Hey guys, I just bought an 86 CJ-7, I'm looking into a V8 swap.

I have the 258 i6 with a Borg-Warner T5 / Dana 300 t-case

I've heard a 302 should bolt right up to my T5 but I have a 350 block ready for rebuild, I could get a 302 for cheap off my uncle but i am a chevy guy.

Im just curious to see what adapters I would need and If I would destroy my tranny if I just bolt up.

Im newer to the jeep game so all advice is appreciated!

Thanks

a good source for adapters (especially putting a chevy in a jeep) is advance adapters, it seems like they have uhnlimited options for everything youll need...from motor mounts for the swap to adapters for the engine to trans and trans to t-case, id definitly stick with the dana 300 if you change transmissions tho, even if you swap in different axles with a different side drop, companies like northwest fab make clocking rings and flip rings for the dana 300 making it usuable in any set up

See thats the thing, I don't know what you mean by different side drop, is there a transmission I wont have to modify the rear drive shaft for clearance?

different side drop means the pumpkin (3rd member...centersection...etc) of the axle, where the ring and pinion are located, is on a different side than the transfercase front output is located, for example, a high pinion kingpin front axle out of a ford up until 1991 (my preferrred front axle for the final plans of my jeep build) has a driver's side drop...but without flipping the dana 300 (your t-case, and the one i would like to use in the final plans for my jeep because its bulletproof and lomax offers a 4 to 1 gearing option for it) is a passenger side drop, there for it needs to be flipped, so you purchase a flip ring to turn it over approximately 180 degrees.

Need more cowbell... and research. The only car I have ever swapped a motor in, and it was as simple as just boting up the engine, was in a 92 Ford Escort GT, when I swapped the lame NA motor for the hot turbo version. Even the ECU was compatable which still amazes the hell out of me. Quite often when you swap engines, everything changes, or needs addressed from the motor mounts, all the way through the driveline to the tires. Think it through... even routing any cables or hydro lines often is something that is overlooked, and can be a significant problem during your install... mostly because you'll probably need a specific fitting, and of course, you won't have it. Take your time, and really think about it. Jusy get underneath and lok at how everything is situated, and mach up as much as you can on your garage floor, before you actully start tearing things apart.
