V8 350 not starting

I out a olds 350 in my yj and I'm currently trying to get the original yj igniton source to work with the 350 starter....I'm currently at a stand still. I found a 12v source at only pits out 12v when the key is turned to start, as if it were to crank the motor. When I run this wire to my startier and connect it to the S terminal on the solenoid nothing happens. I've bypassed this wire just to test the system an starter turns on and spins healthy. Any idea why the wire from the original jeep igntion is putting out 12v but won't turn my starter ? Help is needed!!!!! Thanks
