used engine

We have a 2006 jeep liberty sport. We just replaced the engine(I blew the original on, by not changeing oil) we payed the man across the street, who has changed many engines, and he got us a used engine, with a warranty. It fired right up, but wen my fiance went to start it this morning, it wouldn't start. When you try starting it, there is nothing. The lights work, radio comes on, but doesn't fire up. Also when you leave the key forward, and let it sit the check engine light flashes 5 times, then stays on!!! Any suggestions??
