Transmission and transfer case problems

Hi Everyone,
Im new the the forum. I just bought a 97 jeep tj 2.5l 4 cyl automatic. It seems like in the morning when the engine is cold and i put it into drive and try to move it will just rev a bit and not move but then it will go and it seams fine after that. only does it the once. Also when i try to shift from 4low back down to 4 high or 2 high i get snapping and cruching noises. any ideas what might cause these issues?

Have you checked your transmission fluid level? What speed are you shifting out of 4lo?
