I Have a 98 jeep wrangler it has a sbc 350 in it and I believe it is the ax-15 transmission. I am wanting to switch to a th350 tranny. I have a friend that said I would have to get a th350 for a 4x4 and I am just wondering if that is true. I know I will have to get an adapter from the tranny to the transfer case but just need to know if I can use any th350 or if it has to be specifically for a 4x4. Thanks for your time.
There are two kinds of turbo 350 trannys. There is a long tail and a short tail. But I think that the one for a 4x4 has a different length shaft so the t case will properly fit. It may be easier to find a tranny and a t case that is already together.
Yeah I've been looking online since I posted that and from what I could see, it almost looks like the 4x4 version doesn't have the 6 or 9 inch little tailpiece on it. It's like it goes straight in to the transfer case. I could be completely wrong. I'm not really a mechanic. I'm learning as I go so by all means correct me if I say something STUPID!
