Transmission oil leak

I have a '98 TJ with an auto tranny. It is leaking fluid from what appears to be a weep hole on the bottom side of the adapter that is between the tranny and transfer case (near the transfer case end). Can anyone tell me what exactly this weep hole is for and what the leak is indicating?

The output shaft seal of your transmission is leaking.
