transmission breather?

so i have a 99 tj with an auto transmission, it has a breather already installed on it(PO did it) and it seems that transmission fluid comes out of it? it is running from the correct spot on the transmission but its just a hose straight out of the tranny and to the top of the hood? all of the write ups say to use a elbow or a "T" fitting?

It's a breather. Don't over think it. If the housing was drilled and sealed with a fitting then as long as you get hose sealed on the fitting it should work.
