Tranny Questions

I have the 5 speed manual in my 97 TJ. I drove the jeep on a 1000 mile trip to North Carolina last week. When I got home I found some yellowish thin fluid almost the consistency of power steering fluid pooling under the middle of the jeep. It's not engine oil and it doesn't smell like p/s fluid. The thing is my jeep runs and drives fine as if nothing is wrong! My questions are as follows
What does tranny fluid look like and is it the same as transfer case fluid. Would the jeep run fine without transmission fluid

2. Is transmission fluid and transfer case fluid the same

1. What you are describing sounds like trans fluid that has water mixed in. You may want to drain and refill with a synchromesh 75W-90/140 or you can use a 10W-30 motor oil.

2. Trans fluid and transfer case fluid are different. The transfer case uses automatic transmission oil pink in color. Get a good synthetic.
