tranny

Can anybody tell me what kind of tranny a T-85Q-1 is or what kind of motor I could put in front of it?

I can't help ya, DUS,

Do you have any factory manuals you can cross reference? Is it a Jeep tranny? Do you know what it came out of?

(Someone may have a cross-reference link for ya, also?)

the tranny is in a 67 j-3000 pickup with a 327 vigilante. I can't find a starter for the motor so I would like to change to a more common motor without changing the tranny and transfer case.

I'll check my Jeep book and see what I can find. You should be able to find a starter for the 327 somewhere though, many people still run the 327.

By the way, I think the truck is referred to as the J-30, even in your year (it may say 3000 on the side, but the model is J-30, I'll check that also).

I talked to a guy at a local auto electric shop today and he said that if I would leave the truck with him for a few days that he will build me a starter. So I will probably take it to him this weekend. but I would appreciate any info that you could give me.

That's a good solution to the starter problem

Your tranny, if stock, is the Warner T-85 3-SPD. It was used standard behind the V-8s from 1963-1967 on all the J-Trucks (by the way, yours is actually the Galdiator J2-300, I was mistaken, they changed the designations to J-10, etc. in 1971).

The other trannies used stock are listed below, in case yours was swapped:

Warner T-90A
OHC-6, 1963-1965

Warner T-14A
I-6, 1965-1970

Warner T-15A
V-8, 1968-1970

Hope this helps! Let me know how you make out!
