TPS Throttle Position Sensor Problem

Engine light has been coming on and off so ran the codes at the Jeep dealer and Autozone. Determined that TPS sensor needed replacing. Problem is I can't find one for my 2002 Sport 6 cyl. Anyone have any ideas? Will probably try the Jeep dealer parts dept tomorrow but to install it they wanted $150. Sensor alone should be much cheaper. Any ideas on the cost?

Call your local parts stores for the part number for an 02, 00, 97, and 95 TPS.
I would think the part #'s would be the same in those years and it's easy to swap it yourself. You may also need a T-20 tamper-proof torx bit ($3@ autozone) to remove the sensor. It's a torx bolt with the damned raised center.

Shaliburton,

As a cautionary note, the bolts that hold the TPS to the throttle body are steel and the throttle body is aluminum. Unless the bolts had a bitumus coating applied to them before they were installed, it is possible for the bolts and throttle body to fuse together. I found this to be the case for me when I needed to replace my TPS. In the end I twisted the heads off the torx bolts to get the TPS off. With firm grip on the shaft (yeah, that's right ) with Vice GripsŪ I managed to remove one but broke the other off flush with the throttle body. I ended up drilling out the broken bolt and putting a helicoil in.
