TJ D44 axle build questions

Right now I have a TJ D44 with 4.56 r&p, new chromoly shafts, and an ARB locker installed ready to go into my jeep. It's really bugging me that its on a bench and not in my Jeep.

I still need a pinion yoke for this axle. What kind, how much, and where do I guy it?

He also mentioned that I needed an oil slinger for the axle. Where do I get this?

Also my 2004 TJ has the Dana 35 with a 5 speed manul tranny.

Can I resuse the driveshaft? If so do I need a new U joint between the driveshaft and D44 pinion yoke and where can I get that?

What other parts might I need for the pinion side of the axle between the pinion gear and the yoke? I already have a pinion nut. I think theres a washer too? Not too sure about that.

Thanks

The oil slinger part I believe is an exterior piece, but I may be confusing terminology here. If its what I am thinking of, it goes between the pinion seal and the pinion yoke. I purchased a yoke with an "oil slinger" attached. Now I could be completely wrong on that, but if its anything that's internal, it should have been included in a master install kit. If you don't have a yoke yet, ask the guy if this will work...

As far as the u-joint at the axle end goes, its still a 1310 u-joint so there is no need to change that unless your old one is toast. If you need a new one, you can get it at a driveshaft shop. The local autopart stores around here no longer carry spicer parts. Concerning the driveshaft length, you should still be ok; it'll be a bit too long, but I think it should be fine. Hopefully someone else chimes in here, I hate to give improper advice.

BTW, are you doing a SYE soon? That'll necessitate a new rear DS anyway, so I would run the stocker for the time being.

Sometimes the slinger is refered to as this- it looks like a washer that sits between the lower pinion bearing and the teeth on the pinion,It's purpose is to keep oil up in the pinion bearings. It will be larger in diameter than the inner bearing. it's been about 7 yrs since I did drivetrain work, and about that long since I built a D44. Just go to a heavy duty truck parts supplier, they have parts diagrams for all that stuff.

Thanks guys. I ordered the parts I needed. I have found the length driveshaft will be fine due to my Jeep having about 3" suspension lift due to the OME HD lift I put on the Jeep. So it's a 1310 ujoint same as the D35 huh? Cool.

I've heard I can reuse the drum brakes. Do I need anything special to move the drum brakes from my D35 to the TJ D44 axle??

I swapped everything over to my D44 as well...the only thing I wasn't pleased about was the fit of the brake lines. I had to re-bend them to get over the bigger pumpkin. However, they have been worry-free for three years now, they just don't fit as nice as they once did.

Good luck.

And the u-joint will be the same as stated earlier unless you ordered a yoke for something other than a 1310 u-joint.

I ordered the stock D44 pinion yoke and slinger for a 1997-2006 TJ from 4wd hardware so hopefully it works out.
