timing chain keeps breaking

we rebuilt a 1981 258 ci engine and put in a comp cams cam kit [ cam, timing chain set, lifters]. After 2400 miles the timing broke and the teeth broke off on the lower gear. we sent it back to comp cam and the sent a new cam, lifters and timing set.we insalled it and broke in the cam. Then after starting it a second time and reving it up a little the chain and gear broke again.I don't know what breaks first the gear or the chain but it puts a hole in the side of the timing cover each time. Anybody have any ideas why this would be happening? comp cams has no idea

Steve

That is a weird problem. A chain that is on a slight bind could over time fatigue and break. Perhaps there is an issue with the crank nose. Check for burs or apparent damage especially where the face of the gear contacts the crank.

Perhaps you have excessive run out on the crank and it is moving around and causing your problem.
