T176 leak

I had the engine out of my '80 CJ5 and while it was out, I pulled the xfer case and tranny and separated them. I took the bolts from the tranny to xfer case adapter out and put a new paper gasket in there with no kind of sealant on it. It is leaking pretty badly at that paper gasket. Any suggestions? Should I have used copper coat or something on the paper gasket?

I cleaned the surface really well on both the tranny case and adapter before putting them back together. I saw no damage or burrs on either that would likely cause this.

You need to pull it back apart and use RTV on both sides of the gasket.

Thanks, thats what I figured, but it didn't have anything on it when I pulled it apart, so I did not put anything on it going back in.

Well, when it was first together there was probably "sticky stuff" on the paper to help it bond together.

Anywho, let us all know how it goes.
