starting problems

I have a 92 cherokee. It will no start in the cold. It cranks and cranks but will not start. I was just working and I turned the key and left it in the on postition. About a minute later I heard a slow and quite ticking. Then the ticking got louder and louder and faster. The ticking went for a few minutes. The fuel pump then went on while the ticking continued. When the fuel pump stopped the ticking stopped. I figure the ticking was from the fuel pump relay. I went and turned the key and the engine started but then stalled. I started it and kept it running by pumping the gas pedal. My question is, this a bad pump or relay or pressure regulator? Now starting in the cold it has to go through this everytime or it just will not start.

Please help! Thanks

When you turn your key to the ON (not start) position does your CEL come on for a couple of seconds?

Do you know what was good about the good old days? I wasn't good, And I wasn't old!

Senators and Congressman should wear uniforms like NASCAR drivers so we could identify their corporate sponsors....

In the AM turn your key to the ON position then wait. When your CEL comes on it should start. That means your ECM has bad capacitors in it. They store energy to allow learned memory to be stored in thee ECU.
