Due to cost reduction (means cheaper parts) many newer vehicles use bolts that are "torque to yield" this means that the blots are torqued to the point where they permanently stretch. Thus they get longer each reuse and can get weaker and can break.
The older bolts will usually not permanently stretch but will stretch a bit then come back to their original lengths when loosened (mostly) without problems.
Like many things newer is not always better but usually more cheaply made.
