SBC 350 and what trans???

I am in the process of putting a Chevy 350 into my 73 CJ. I have the stock 3 speed and transfer case that came off of the AMC 304 but am not really sure if this is the route to go. I haven't actully driven the 3 speed but by the sound of it it the gearing might not be ideal. It is going to be a play rig mostly but will have to see some street time. I know I want to stay with a manual trans but don't know which one to go with. Another thing that comes into play is the adapter that mounts the 3 speed trans to the 350, not too mention the clutch and other stuff to make it work. I was thinking a manual trans and transfer case out of a Chevy truck or something, that would just leave the driveline to deal with right? What is everyone else using for this swap? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,

-Ryan

OK, after researching, I found out that the trans I have is the T15. I have read that it is the strongest of the 3 speeds, true or not, I don't know. After thinking it over I think I am ok with staying with the the 3 speed. I guess my question now is, what its the easiest and or the cheapest way to mount this thing to a SBC 350? Can I use the cluch and such off of the 304 or do I need to purchase all of that new? Any info or suggestions would be great. Thanks again,

-Ryan

I haven't tried it yet myself, maybe someone else can confirm, but look into the possibility of using a bell housing off of the '81ish and up 151 4cyl. It had a Chevy pattern on one side and possibly a Borg pattern on the other (or maybe it was Tremec). Might be close enough to make work.

Thanks, I'll look into that. Do you know what chassis they are found in? Can anyone here confirm or deny based on first hand experience?

Lots of knowledgeable folks on this forum. Thanks everyone!!

I installed a Chevrolet SM 465 tranny with a NP205 T-case in mine. All it takes is relocating the clutch linkage and the crossmember.
