Safe to use brake cleaner to clean fuel injectors?

I've got my fuel injectors out for cleaning while I swap in a new exhaust header on my 4.0L. I'm trying to find a place local to me that will professionally clean them, but if I can't, can I just spray the nozzle ends with some brake cleaner? The tips are all coated in a sticky black residue.

I did some Googling that suggests that brake cleaner is fine for injectors, but carb/throttle body cleaner isn't.

Correct. The brake cleaner will not destroy rubber and plastic like carb cleaner does.
