Im sure theres threads out about this, but i was up in the hills last night playing in the snow and my xj was running hot. Over 210 around 230 . Its cooled down when i would take it out of 4 hi. It didnt seem that the electric fan was kicking on

Try replacing the thermostat. Let it run till the fan kicks round 210 or a lil over. Fan doesn't kick on, there's your issue. Need new fan
