Royal purple in a JK? Why yes/no

Just bought some 5w30 RP and a quart of magic mystery oil, anyone see any problem with running this? along with a k&n filter, I'm hoping to get this thing running as good as the day I bought it. I'm also planning on using some sea foam and fuel system cleaner cause I may have got some bad gas awhile back. Does anybody else use RP or additives like Marvins magic mystery oil?

MMO is probably one of the few "snake oil" products out there that actually performs as advertised. I say run it. I'd pass on the fuel system cleaner, and get another bottle of MMO and run that through the gas as well.

You mean to run the same product that im mixing with my oil, through my fuel system? I don't know anything about mmo other than I used to soak wood in it to start good campfires lol

I did it, and to my surprise as soon as I started the engine and backed it down the drive way, it started smoking like crazy from the exhaust. It smelled like burnt mystery oil... It smoked pretty bad for about ten minutes, more so when I gave it a rev. Is this normal? I drove it about 14 miles home and it was still smoking just a tiny bit when I got home, and my exhaust was also dripping excessively after the oil change. I used 4 and a half quarts 5w-30 royal purple and 1 quart mmo.

What most likely happened is ur "mmo" was light enough to get through the piston rings and got mixed in with the combustion hints why it was kicking out your exhaust. Oil was getting burned (mmo). And when you rev it you got more combinations which in turn gives more mmo down the piston wall which got burned leading to more burning oil. And out the exhaust it goes!

I own a tj. I use 10w-30 RP. No other additives. RP is advance enough to be the only thing in your engine. Not sure if jk's are 5w-30 stock suggestion or if that was a weight you experimented with. But yea mmo through the piston rings and into combustion mixture is where I put my vote. Hope this helps (let me know how that help or if you have another question)

I dont know what you are expecting out of using marvel mystery oil? dod you put that in the crankcase for a lubricant additive, or are you trying to clean it up? MMO is more of a solvent/cleaner than I would consider it to be a lubricant. I am not sure if you engine needs a cleaning or not but I wouldnt use it unless I suspected a dirty crankcase or sticking rings or something. Then I dont think I would buy an upper quality oil like RP and then put more additives in on top of that, simply not needed.
