Rear Axle????

I just bought a 2002 Wrangler X, I6, Auto and I need to find out what type of front and rear axle I have.... Anyone have a clue on where I need to look????? I might be getting a free rear locker but I need to find out if it is going to fit....

Up front You will have the Dana 30 .

The rear will either have a Dana 35 or a Dana 44 . See this picture to identify your rear axle .

Notice the 35 has more of a round shape to the diff cover and a rubber fill plug . The 44 has more of an angular shaped cover and has a metal , screw in fill plug

This is all assuming the axles are of the original equipment

Thanks for the visuals... It'll make it 10 times easier to figure it out... I appreciate the help... If its a 44 on mine I'm set... I'll get both!

If you have just the standard X model, you'll have the D35 rear. The D44 was not even an option on these models.

The only X models that got the D44 rear were a few special packages, such as the Rocky Mountain Edition.
