Problems with F4 engine

I rebuilt the F4 engine for my 67 Jeepster convertible. It idles fine. At speed it is smooth for a few seconds then sputters, stalls and slows down then it regains speed, runs smoothly for a little while then repeats. Anyone have any idea what may be the problem?
