black smoke could also mean you just have no oil or oil pressure to the cylinders.

with the engine running, wiggle or tug on the wiring harness that goes to your injectors.
check for any bare wires anywhere the harness is touching metal.
check engine oil level,is it overfull?does it smell like fuel?if yes, could indicate overfueling.

overfueling is too much fuel.
the black smoke from the exhaust is unburnt fuel.
can be caused by too much fuel or ignition system problems.
check your oil and do the wiggle test

ok, ill check that. i dont think the problem is caused by too much oil, since it didnt appear when i refilled the oil or something. but ill check the oil level and pull on the wires to see what i can come up with...
thanx!

you will be checking your oil for fuel contamination.
if the level has increased and smells like fuel, overfueling would most likley be the cause.
excess fuel will get past the piston rings and end up in the oil.
this would not be the cause of the problem, only a result.

got it... so, if that is the case, whats the problem?? the piston rings are worn and need to be replaced?? i need to open the cylinders and put bigger pistons?? or what can cause the fuel to get past the rings??

it is normal for some fuel to get past the rings during normal operation.
if your engine is overfueling, there will be more fuel getting past the rings as there is more fuel in the cylinders.
this is not a problem with the rings.
if your oil has lots of fuel in it,it may confirm overfueling.
overfueling can be caused by a number of things(leaky injectors, defective fuel pressure regulator, computer or sensor problems etc. etc. etc.)
you first need to determine if the problem is in the fuel system or the ignition system.
check oil and do wiggle test

shu2kil.........I had something similar happen to me w/ my 91 YJ. It would loose power and shut off while running. Then it would sometimes crank afterwards, but not always. I'm no mechanic, so I took it to a mechanic who in turn took me for some unnecessary expenses. The codes were reading fine according to them. O2 sensor and some other parts replaced. Still had issues. The problem was that it didn't do it all the time, so the mechanic thought I was retarted when I called him broke down on the side of the road, had my vehicle towed in, and it cranked right up after a couple of hours. Finally took it to another mechanic who told me that the coil was wired wrong???? Like I said, I'm no mechanic so I don't know. Ran fine for awhile, then started acting up. Mechanic #3.......he replaced the fuel pump and all is well. It's been 3 years since, and I've had no issues. This may or may not help, but that was the problem with mine.
