Does the pump sound like its working hard at idle or with no steering input, kind of the sound it would make if you kept the steering wheel turned at full lock? Does the steering assist feel normal until pump failure, or is it still hard to steer? I have seen restriction in the hoses cause problems like these, especially if there is a cooler that could be restricted. Also if there is a bunch of dirt/debris in the system it could be knocking out the pumps.

The high pressure line and return line seem to be ok.The only thing left would be the steering box.could the box be plugged?

A restriction somewhere could be making the pump overwork itself but I would really suspect you should be able to hear this or feel it with a lack of power assist.
