performance upgrades for TJ 2.5L 3speed auto tranny?

The transmission recently went out on my 99 se, and I am having it rebuilt.

I dont have allot of background with automatic transmissions and I was wondering if there were any modifications or upgrade I should considering during my rebuild?

As of now I am planning on running a transmission cooler, but was wondering if there was anything I could do to make my transmision stronger, exc. (more clutch plates?)

I think with that engine, there isn't much you can do to your tranny that will give a big difference. The only transmission performance mod (other than a cooler) that I've ever messed with is a shift kit, which seems useless in a jeep

Honestly, Its a 2.5L. Its gonna be a slug. It doesnt have enough power to over power the tranny. The best things you can do, trans cooler, regular fluid changes, and most importantly, raise the vent.

If you have it apart, then remove the factory breather and thread in a hose barb. Add a long vent hose to somewhere in the cab.

If it has tracks, tires or tits, its gonna cause a problem.

Here's a write-up I did on relocating the vent:

Adding an additional cooler is cheap insurance. Here's the one I'm using behind my grill in series with the cooler in the bottom of the radiator:

A deep pan is another nice modification. The additional fluid helps with fluid starvation on steep hill climbs. It also helps a little with cooling. You can get a Mopar deep pan from the dealer for about $50. I believe its the same pan as the 32rh. If thats true, the part # is P4007886.
