Outside the frame headers?

I am looking at possibly going to a set of headers that run outside the frame rails. My suspension and drive train have made space a little tight everywhere else. Does anyone run these? What kind? Any issues?

I've ran (have a SBC in mine, not an AMC though) the Hooker SuperComp swap headers with 3" mufflers/dumps/h-pipe, custom built 2" primary tube headers, and currently some custom stepped 1 7/8" to 2" tube headers, with 3.5" mufflers/dumps.
The only issue is noise. But, depending on application, I'm sure you can cut down the noise factor quite a bit with the right muffler.
Never any issues with mine, but mine only sees the street, sand dunes, and sand drags. No mud/trails.

With the Hooker SuperComp swap headers do they pass in front of or behind the body mount that is just behind the front tire? Do you have a pic, that would greatly help?

Behind. Here's a few pictures of the SuperComps from the gazillion transformations my drivetrain has taken over the years

Thanks for the pics! Do you have the model number? I am having a hard time finding a set that look like yours that will go over the steering shaft.

By the way, have you had that 434 dynoed? I have an 82 with a BBC 468 that I am working towards having enough horsepower to play in the sand. I think I am going to go with the Dart heads, everyone I have talked to said they are amazing.

I don't have the model number handy, but I might be able to find out what it was. Unfortunately, my understanding is that Hooker no longer makes them as of not long ago. Best bet would be to see about used ones.
My motor is a fairly mild pump gas deal that is setup for nitrous, so N/A numbers aren't the best. It made 629HP@6,500
I was hoping for a little more, but that's what it did.
We like to go to the sand dunes/sand drags. Seems like the dunes are getting harder to race every year though with the changing environment.

That would be great if you could find that, I have been looking and am having trouble finding any. Plus, with my big block it makes it even harder to find something. I may end up calling hooker or another company and see what there reps say.

So are you putting a BB or SB in your CJ? I don't think you'll find any outside frame headers for a BB. However, a friend of mine should have a set for a BB he used in his CJ, but they are inside frame headers.

Yeah, its a 468 BBC. I currently have block huggers on it that had to be customized to fit. Searching around on Summit etc. I didn't see much out there.
