Ok i have a 1990 jeep cherokee need help

O I finally got the engine running great after a lot of work it was acting like I hit a rev limiter at 2400 rpm well come to find out we had to loosen the crank sensor push it in till we heard it hit the crank then backed it off a hair and it revs up to 5000 easy so now when I drive it if I ease on the gas it spits and spudders falls on it face but if I mash on the pedal it runs great any ideas does this rid have a speed sensor if so where is it located and would it cause this ....
