Oil Pressure Issue 2.5L 89 YJ

Guys,

My oil pressure gauge is pegging out at the max and never moves from there. Sometimes I turn the key to on ( the engine is still off) and it pegs to max. I removed the one wire from the oil pressure sensor (a green wire I believe ) and it shot straight to 80 plus PSI even if the engine is off. Does this mean that its the sensor or do I suspect the gauge. Nothing leads me to believe the oil pressure isn't 100 psi plus, except for the hundred of so oil leaks. I also used a ohms meter to measure the resistance. With the engine off, the resistance is zero, with the engine on, it is infinity.

David

Sounds like the pressure transmitter. Same thing happenned to me. I wouldn't suspect the gauge is at fault. Replace the pressure transmitter and you should be fine.

Double that. Mine went out and I ended up losing my oil on the freeway
